TRAVEL: OUR RETREAT, IBIZA

Late last year I spent a week in Ibiza, and returned sans hangover and with bags of energy.

The reason for my visit was a yoga retreat. I only started doing yoga to help prevent running injuries, but the more I practiced, the more I fell in love. Four years on, it's now a huge part of my life, one I can't imagine being without.

I was feeling a little run down and burnt out, so I booked into Our Retreat for a week by myself (sidenote - solo travel is possibly the best, most liberating thing I have ever done). Daily Pilates classes with Lottie Murphy and yoga and barre with Emily Spriggs were the absolute highlight of the trip. Classes were either taught in a purpose-built yurt, buried in the grounds among pomegranate and orange trees, or on a sun-soaked deck, which was just perfect.

We also hiked around Ibiza. For an island famed for its club scene, there are some amazing trails which simply don't get the airtime they deserve. We hiked the down to the beach, up the mountains and through the Old Town.

I'm definitely not a 'foodie' (mainly because I hate that word) but the culinary delights were definitely something to write home about. In-house chefs genuinely cared about their work and created some outstanding food for us during our stay.

Although it was primarily a fitness retreat, there was plenty of downtime, too. It was a rare chance to recharge, read, swim, and generally forget about lengthy to-do lists and bulging inboxes. One night we slumped on beanbags and covered ourselves with blankets to watch a movie outside under the stars on giant outdoor cinema screen with popcorn.

Ibiza is a small island, what with hikes and a paddleboard trip, we had seen a great deal of it. But no trip is complete without a visit to the Old Town. We sauntered around the cobbled streets, shopped at pretty little boutiques and stopping for ice creams.

There's so much more to the white isle than just partying, and more and more people are choosing to visit for wellness retreats. The late summer sun definitely helped perk me up. I'm already planning my next retreat - I'm thinking about booking into one of their UK retreats with my mum as a post-marathon treat.
